Melissa was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. Her mum, a nurse, and dad, an engineer, decided to leave Scotland and immigrate to Canada. This means Melissa grew up in Milton, Ontario without a Trainspotting accent, much to her regret.
With science-oriented parents, it's no surprise Melissa went to the University of Waterloo to pursue a degree in Biochemistry. After that, she continued the self-flagellation and got an MSc in Neurology and Neurosurgery from McGill University. Actually, the science was interesting. The lab work, however, was not. Melissa left science and started writing - first medical, technical, and marketing writing, later some fiction. She doesn't have an English degree or MFA, but she hopes you like her stories anyway.
Melissa currently resides in Santa Barbara, California with her husband and a bleached-out cat from Quebec.
